How to Prepare for Senior Portraits

Location, location, location

First thing, if we haven't already, let's pick a spot (or two) to take your photos. While Austin is not short on beautiful and interesting venues, it's always fun to choose a location that has personal meaning to you. If nothing comes to mind, I'm happy to help you choose a location that suits the look and feel you want for your photo session, whether it's a grassy field, downtown views, or your own backyard.

Some of my recent favorite spots:

Walnut Creek Park

Meuller Lake Park

Austin Downtown Library

Wardrobe & Props

First and foremost, it's important to feel like yourself. Feeling comfortable and confident will absolutely come across in your photos!

Choose wardrobe pieces that aren't going to compete for attention in the photo. We want the focus to be on you and not what you're wearing. So the best idea is to stick with solid colors or classic, small prints.

Remember to consider your environment. Make sure your footwear matches the terrain, unless the intent is a purposeful juxtaposition of wardrobe and scenery.

And while it’s not required for great photos, feel free to bring any props that are special to you! We can incorporate your favorite sport, hobby, books, or your cap and gown.

The Session

My photo style is best described as "controlled candids", meaning I will direct and guide you to create shots that look and feel like natural moments, and not overly posed or only smiling directly at the camera (though there will be plenty of opportunity for showing off those pearly whites).

Senior sessions tend to last between 1-2 hours, depending on wardrobe and location changes.

As always, I’m here for any questions! Looking forward to making some photo magic together.
